Visionary winemaker

David Hunt, owner of Hunt Cellars, is legally blind. After spending a morning with Hunt he revealed himself as an incredibly visionary winemaker. Hunt proudly noted he can “see” color with his highly honed olfactory sensors. And he proved it by deftly describing the colors of each wine he poured.

A longtime, passionate cab producer, Hunt introduced pinot noir with a first vintage release in 2009. Sourced from Santa Barbara County near Santa Rita Hills, the exceptionally dark-red pinot is reminiscent of a full-bodied cabernet with an exquisite finish that just hums along. Hunt started producing zin back in 1998, and was soon walking away from ZAP competitions with ratings ranging from 90 to 94.
