Award-winning film director and screenwriter, Max Barbakow grew up in Santa Barbara, California and graduated from The Thatcher School in nearby Ojai in 2007.
Barbakow instinctively knew at an early age that the art of story telling expressed through the written word and videography was where his passion lay.
While an undergraduate at Yale, Barbakow made time to delve in to the cultures of the far corners of the world. Barbakow melds the visual experience with a keen sensitivity for amplifying tales through powerful soundscapes.Barbakow’s second film, The Duke, produced while a Directing Fellow at the American Film Institute, has garnered numerous accolades, including “Best Student Film” at the Pasadena Film Festival. The Duke has also been featured at numerous film festivals, including Tribeca Film Festival, Taos, Vail, Santa Barbara International Film Festival, and the Cannes Film Festival.
